PINECIL 64– Smart Mini Portable Soldering Iron

PINECIL 64– Smart Mini Portable Soldering Iron

I bought and decided to review a #Pinecil 64, which is a smart mini portable soldering iron. Compare this to the TS-100 except it is MUCH cheaper and includes a USB-C PD/QC Power jack.

I wanted to try one of these, and I saw a very positive review on ‘#Adrian’s Digital Basement’ YouTube Channel. Well, no way I could resist the less than $30 price tag. The Pinecil-64 is running firmware that can be updated, similar to the TS100. But in addition to the features that the TS100 has, this one has a USB-C PD/QC port. So it you have a PD supply capable of supplying 65 watts (~4amps at ~20 volts) you can connect it via USB-C. It will also run from a PD/QC Battery pack, or a plain old 20v (or less) battery pack / power supply with a capability of up to 4 amps.

In the video I open the box, show you what you get, test it out, then install an optional case kit to make it ‘My Own’…

The last 25 minutes of the video are me playing with the menu, stumbling thru it. It is long, slow, and not great, but if you want to fast forward thru it so you get a better idea of how the on-board menu works, that’s why I put it there. EVERYTHING important is covered in the first half of the video.

I was not compensated for this in any way. I purchased it ans was so excited about it I had to pass the news on to you. If you have any questions or want to know more or preform some test with it, let me know.

I retired from a large mid-western medical equipment manufacturer on December 31 (2019) and decided to try to let everyone in on my life and my transition into retirement. I have a varied set of interests. I live in a 90 year old cape cod in the middle of a small city of 70,000 people. I have a small lot across the street from the city seat of government, but despite that I have a 1952 Allis Chalmers farm tractor that I drive around the city from time to time. My wife has a business that has me fixing and creating cool home decor out of broken windows and drywall screws. I have been known to buy things on 'for sale' lists, fix it up, clean it up, generally add value and sell it off. Oh, yes, I'm getting chickens! But first I have to build the chicken coop and run. It will be like no other you have ever seen. Also will give me something to do. I am into home automation, have a Home Assistant enabled home and so will the chickens! I'll have to give them a password...
