Sketchy Foam Tire Repair

Sketchy Foam Tire Repair

In today’s video, I’m putting the “Sketchy Foam Tire Repair” method to the test – that is, using spray
foam insulation to fix two non-repairable tires on my trusty wood splitter. Besides being an interesting experiment, this project has a practical side too: saving money! Replacement tires for my wood splitter would cost me nearly $300, which is 3x more than I paid for the entire machine.

As you might recall from one of my previous videos, I mentioned that I’d be trying out this foam tire
repair trick. And now, here it is – the moment of truth! Nor am I just winging it; I’ve done some research and believe that this method might actually work for something like my wood splitter, which gets used maybe once a year at most.

So, let’s take a closer look at how the sketchy foam tire repair works. First, you’ll need to prepare the area around the tire by cleaning off any dirt or debris. Then, you’ll need to drill a couple of holes in the tire itself. Next, you’ll fill spray foam insulation to the inside of the tire, making sure to fill until some is coming out the holes.

Equally important is allowing the foam to dry completely before moving on. Check that the tire seems solid and still adheres to the rim and all the appropriate stuff. In addition to being an affordable solution, this sketchy foam tire repair method also seems like a pretty cool
hack – who wouldn’t want to try fixing their tires with something as unexpected as spray foam insulation?

I retired from a large mid-western medical equipment manufacturer on December 31 (2019) and decided to try to let everyone in on my life and my transition into retirement. I have a varied set of interests. I live in a 90 year old cape cod in the middle of a small city of 70,000 people. I have a small lot across the street from the city seat of government, but despite that I have a 1952 Allis Chalmers farm tractor that I drive around the city from time to time. My wife has a business that has me fixing and creating cool home decor out of broken windows and drywall screws. I have been known to buy things on 'for sale' lists, fix it up, clean it up, generally add value and sell it off. Oh, yes, I'm getting chickens! But first I have to build the chicken coop and run. It will be like no other you have ever seen. Also will give me something to do. I am into home automation, have a Home Assistant enabled home and so will the chickens! I'll have to give them a password...
