Last time, I tackled a rusty tin shed roof and was pleased with the results. This video is for someone who wants to repair and paint their own tin shed roof, just like mine.
First, we need to convert the rusty areas to stabilize them. In this case, that means coating it with Ospho to turn the rust into phosphate. Fortunately, I didn’t have to do any pop-riveting or tar plugging, which is always a plus.
Follow along as I go through the steps: Powerwash, scrub, powerwash again, and then spray rust converter. Let’s let it dry overnight, then blow off the next day with a leaf blower. Two coats of rubberized roof paint will finish the job. If you don’t have any spray equipment, you can brush on the rust converter, which is safer than the way I did it. Don’t attempt to spray phosphoric acid in an enclosed space like I did, trust me on that one.
Besides using Ospho, we also need to choose the right paint for our roof. Rubberized roof paint is the way to go for a long-lasting finish. I picked white non fibrous, but other options are available.
First and foremost, safety always comes first when working with chemicals. However, if done correctly, this project can extend the life of your building. Furthermore, it’s a cost-effective way to repair your roof without breaking the bank. In addition, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that your tin shed is secure and protected from the elements.
So, next time you’re faced with a rusty tin shed roof, don’t panic. Just remember to follow these simple steps, and you’ll be enjoying the sunshine under your newly repaired roof in no time. Last but not least, what’s more satisfying than a job well done?
