Blueprint Tutorial & Rudy Stuff

Firstly, I’m excited to share with you my Blueprint Tutorial & Rudy Stuff for Home Assistant today! This is the 8th of our 12 Streams of Christmas and it’s a project I’ve been looking forward to sharing with you all.

So, what inspired me to create this tutorial? Well, we start with an item from Reseller Ranvee – a 12-volt camera intended to document traffic as you drive. This camera is useful in the case of an accident or something that needs documenting, and it’s a great starting point for our project.

Now, when it comes to blueprints, I want to make sure you understand the importance of having a working automation or script before creating one. It’s equally important to know the logic of Home Assistant Actions are sorted and functional. So, if your plan involves multiple entities and actions, pick one entity and one action in the Base Automation and debug that.

Furthermore, starting with functional code makes it much easier to troubleshoot the Blueprint conversion part, as you’re changing only one thing at a time. After we build and demonstrate a blueprint, I go through my list of Blueprints that I’m offering to the community and answer any questions that come up there with these.

And finally, at the end of the stream, we give away some stickers to a lucky viewer! To be eligible for
the stickers, you need to stick around until the very end of the video. What’s more, if you have any questions or comments about blueprints or Home Assistant, leave them in Discord or in the section below and I’ll do my best to help.

So, let’s get started with our Blueprint Tutorial In this video, we’ll be building a blueprint using Home Assistant and exploring how it works. So, sit back, relax, and let’s dive into the world of blueprints together!

I retired from a large mid-western medical equipment manufacturer on December 31 (2019) and decided to try to let everyone in on my life and my transition into retirement. I have a varied set of interests. I live in a 90 year old cape cod in the middle of a small city of 70,000 people. I have a small lot across the street from the city seat of government, but despite that I have a 1952 Allis Chalmers farm tractor that I drive around the city from time to time. My wife has a business that has me fixing and creating cool home decor out of broken windows and drywall screws. I have been known to buy things on 'for sale' lists, fix it up, clean it up, generally add value and sell it off. Oh, yes, I'm getting chickens! But first I have to build the chicken coop and run. It will be like no other you have ever seen. Also will give me something to do. I am into home automation, have a Home Assistant enabled home and so will the chickens! I'll have to give them a password...
