Today, I’m installing a new piece of hardware at the Cottage, and it’s a Vevor Weather Station Installation that I’ve been eagerly awaiting. This installation is part of my ongoing effort to monitor the weather at both my home and our family vacation home.
First, let me tell you about my previous experience with a Ecowitt weather station at my home. While it served its purpose, I was excited to find a more affordable option – this Vevor Weather Station Installation will be installed at the vacation home, where I want to monitor temperature, rainfall, and wind. Additionally, I need the light level to automate on when I get this stuff installed into Home
Assistant.
I also have to give a shoutout to my Partner, who was impressed by the color display on this Vevor Weather Station Installation. She asked why I don’t have a display like that for her at home, which got me thinking – maybe they sell similar displays for other weather stations? That’s something I’ll look into further.
Now, let’s talk about the installation process itself. This went smoothly, and I was able to successfully connect the Vevor Weather Station Installation to Weather Underground. However, there was one issue – the UV light sensor tends to max out many nights after dark. While it could be aliens shining a light on the sensor (what’s more unlikely?), it’s also possible that the sensor is faulty.
Lastly, I want to mention that next time I’ll likely connect this Vevor Weather Station Installation to Home Assistant and get some numbers into my automation system using an RTL433 – that’s a project for another video.
